SCPTSA + SSEPTSA Community Listening Session

August 31, 2026 SCPTSA Communications

Hello PTA Leaders,

Thank you for everything that your teams have been doing this summer to prepare and support your schools for the year ahead!

We are Seattle Council PTSA, a team of volunteers who have been elected and appointed to serve as leaders who represent and support over 80 PTAs and PTSAs in Seattle Public Schools. We work alongside Washington State PTA to offer resources for local PTAs in our communities, and one of those resources we provide is hosting Community Listening Sessions.

On September 2nd, from 12-1pm, SCPTSA and the Seattle Special Education PTSA will be hosting a Community Listening Session on Zoom. Please find the meeting access info included at the bottom of this email.

Regarding this event, please know:

  • Anyone is invited to attend to share and listen to others to share their questions, concerns, thoughts in a communal space.

  • ASL, Spanish, and Somali interpreters will be present. We also welcome anyone to reach out to executiveboard@scptsa.org with any requests to provide additional language interpretation

  • SCPTSA will offer reminders and resources regarding WSPTA and NTA’s stances related to neutrality

It is understood that both  SPS and SEA have offered their perspectives regarding the ongoing bargaining. Also, the Superintendent sent an email to SPS families last night. And even with these statements, our community still does not have the complete picture of everything that is occurring in negotiations behind closed doors. We are also aware that a lot of information, and sometimes misinformation, is shared on other websites, on social media, and in other spaces throughout our city during this uncertain time.

We acknowledge that there is a lot of uncertainty, and understandable fear and other emotions are being felt right now.
We hope that offering a space for our communities to come together to hear each other and to share resources, may be helpful. We  all need helpers who center hope and everyone’s humanity.

We are currently asking the city and will update our website soon with guidance on childcare, food resources, and back to school forms, and more.

Thank you for everything that you do to help others and to bring people together.

We look forward to seeing anyone who can join us on Zoom this Wednesday, September 2nd from 12-1pm. Please reach out to executiveboard@scptsa.org with any questions you may have.

In community,
Your SCPTSA Board
