Advocacy Tips & Responsibilities for Local PTA’s
Appoint an Advocacy/Legislative Chair to your PTA Board of Directors
Check out the WSPTA Advocacy Page and sign up to receive WSPTSA Advocacy Alerts
Review the helpful Advocacy Handbook from WSPTA (includes a description of duties of a legislative chair) and the WSPTA guide for taking positions on ballot measures
Send at least one delegate to the WSPTA Legislative Assembly every fall to participate in determining the legislative platform of the WSPTA
Follow SCPTSA and the WA State Parent Legislative Chairs Facebook pages
Sign up to receive SCPTSA’s weekly newsletter and advocacy specific emails (Sept–June)
Attend SCPTSA General Membership meetings and SCPTSA Legislative Meetings to connect with the SCPTSA Board and other PTA members from around the city
Keep up with the Seattle School Board—meeting agendas for work sessions and regular board meetings are always available on the SPS website, in addition to archives of past meetings and issues

Resolutions & Positions
As a PTA member, you can strengthen your influence when you advocate for positions that are supported by resolutions adopted by Seattle Council, State, and National PTA. You can also adopt SCPTSA, WSPTA, and NPTA resolutions as a local PTA to solidify your commitment to a position.
