Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
Students, families and educators experience vastly different education systems that either support—or hinder—the ability for all children to reach their full potential. These differences are often due to disparities in opportunities, access and financial resources—and whether or not parents are respected as equal partners in their child's education.
Building a More Diverse, Equitable & Inclusive PTA
National PTA represents parents, caregivers, educators and communities of all children, which enables us to best achieve PTA’s mission to make every child’s potential a reality. Our collective backgrounds, perspectives and ideas allow us to create the strongest future and direction for PTA.
We believe diversity is our strength, equity drives our mission and collaboration must be inclusive. Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion explores how PTAs define and embody diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in our work. (en español)

Gracious Space: A Practical Guide to Working Better Together
Gracious Space is a tool for change and collective leadership. Defined as a spirit and setting where we invite the stranger and learn in public, Gracious Space is an approach to relationships that creates opportunities for deeper listening and understanding, and encourages the creative potential of diverse views.
Most groups are made up of well-meaning people who nevertheless find themselves in situations of conflict with others. Whether the project is a leadership development program, community initiative, difficult conversation on race, a reorganization, performance appraisal, coaching conversation, new vision, mission or strategic plan, a new team, or mediation – Gracious Space can make the relationships stronger and the work flow more creatively.
Developed by the Center for Ethical Leadership, Gracious Space is inherently a process that values inclusion and diversity, and many communities organizations find it to be an essential part of their racial equity strategy. The change framework provides a powerful and proven approach to hold our differences, dialogues and dreams so we can invent a more positive future together.
