Dear Community,

I got the chance to speak with Sherri Kokx, Senior Advisor to Superintendent Juneau. She confirmed the district will continue to provide meals to students and a pilot for lunch deliveries via school buses for Eckstein and Aki Kurose is being analyzed.

Also, immediate needs for technology are focused on High School Seniors to make sure they are able to graduate. Their other priority at the moment is our Special Education students. This has been a heavy lift requiring a lot of collaboration between many staff members and leaders.

The SPS-TV videos continue to be produced and uploaded. SPS has received feedback and messages of support from families across the district. Sherri says: "Staff across the system are doing their best for our students and families to navigate in this new world. We know that this will end and we will be stronger as a school community"

In this very different time we are living, I wanted to pause and reflect on what my priorities are -that might be completely different from yours - and what our priorities are as a community.  This is the time to work together, lift each other up, check on others and believe this too shall pass.

Collectively and individually we are going through so many emotions. I choose gratitude.

Looking forward to talking to all of you at our general meeting on Zoom this Thursday at 6pm!

Best regards,

Manuela Slye, President
